Superintendent Appointed to National Commission

Dr. Will Hardin, Superintendent of Camden County Schools, was recently appointed by Governor Brian Kemp as the Georgia Commissioner for the Military Children’s Compact Commission. Dr. Hardin’s appointment was formalized on April 19th with an Executive Order signed by Governor Kemp. Dr. Hardin will represent the educational interests of Georgia’s military children on a national level as the Georgia head of the commission. The Compact Commission addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation.

Created in 2006 by The Council of State Governments (CSG), in cooperation with the US Department of Defense, the Military Children’s Compact Commission drafted the Interstate Military Children’s Compact to address some of the educational challenges transitioning children of military families face. The goal of the Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students.

When asked about his appointment to the Compact Commission and the work of the Georgia Commissioner, Dr. Hardin commented: “The faith and trust represented by the Governor’s appointment to this position is humbling. Clearly, the history of work of our school leaders, teachers and Board here in Camden and their respect for the challenges facing military families played a large part in the Governor’s decision. I look forward to the work and to doing my part to ensure the children of military families coming to Georgia benefit from the great work of districts serving military installations across our state.”

Georgia is one of fifty member states in the Military Children’s Compact
Commission and is composed of representatives from the Georgia Department of Education, School Liaison Officers from every military installation in Georgia, and representatives from the Department of Defense.
