The Camden County Board of Education has announced the purchase of OpenGate weapon detection systems for middle and high school sites as part of its continued commitment to student and staff safety.

OpenGate is an advanced screening system designed to provide unobtrusive, efficient detection of weapons as students and visitors enter school buildings. OpenGate allows Camden County Schools to enhance the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors by deterring and detecting the presence of weapons on our campuses.

All visitors and parents entering the school during the school day will be screened using the same process. The portable Opengate System will also be used at the entrance to large after-school events, such as concerts or family nights, and will also be set up at high school sporting events.

“Safety is our highest priority,” said Superintendent Dr. Tracolya Green. “By implementing OpenGate in our secondary schools, we are taking proactive steps to ensure our campuses remain safe learning environments for all.”

The district will begin installation of the systems Fall 2025, with staff receiving training to ensure effective implementation. This technology is one component of our comprehensive, multi-layered approach to school safety, which also includes emergency preparedness drills, mental health support, and a positive school climate.
