Yesterday, Mrs. O’Brien’s Jag Time at MHES was joined by some amazing kindergarteners for some cozy reading time! The 4th and 5th graders did a fantastic job reading aloud to their kinders and everyone made some new friends!

✨ Teacher Spotlight: Thomas Purvis – Camden Success Academy Teacher of the Year ✨
Mr. Thomas Purvis is a middle school math teacher at Camden Success Academy, serving students in grades 6–8. With 12 years in education, he brings dedication, patience, and a strong commitment to student success.
He became a teacher because he enjoys seeing the “light bulb” moment when a student truly understands a concept they once struggled with. Mr. Purvis also values the supportive environment at Camden Success Academy and says the best part of his job is working alongside a staff that always puts students first.
Outside the classroom, he enjoys fixing things (even if he complains a little first!) and relaxing through kayak fishing. If he weren’t teaching, he’d likely be a pilot or a full-time kayak fisherman.
His personal motto says it best:
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

📏👟 Hands-on learning in Ms. Dawson’s class at DLRES! 👟📏
Ms. Dawson’s students recently wrapped up a fun math project exploring non-metric measurement. Each student traced their shoe and then measured its length using snap cubes—a creative way to build understanding through real-world practice!
We love seeing students learning by doing and having fun while they’re at it. Way to go, Ms. Dawson and class! 🎉📐

Last week in Mrs. Renshaw’s first grade classroom, Sugarmill students put their fraction skills into action with a hands-on learning experience! Students worked with a partner to share a Hershey bar, then collaborated in groups of four to divide another bar into equal parts.
Before breaking the chocolate, they talked through their strategies and explained their thinking. The lesson wrapped up with students writing about whether they preferred one-half or one-quarter. Learning at Sugarmill is always interactive, engaging, and just a little sweet! 🍫
Great job, eagles!!

🔦✨ Learning in a Whole New Light! ✨🔦
The kindergarten and 1st-grade STEM students at MLGES had a bright time exploring light and shadows using flashlights! 💡 Through hands-on play, students discovered how light travels, how shadows are made, and how changing the position of a light can change a shadow’s size and shape.
Lots of curiosity, giggles, and “aha!” moments filled the room as the young scientists experimented and learned together!
