🌟 Shoutout to our amazing 2nd graders at Mamie Lou Gross Elementary School! 🌟
Our young learners have been diving into what it means to be a good citizen and how they can make a positive impact on others. They explored various ways to embody good citizenship and the importance of these actions in our community.
In a heartwarming project, each student created a certificate to honor someone in their life who they believe exemplifies the qualities of a good citizen and has made a difference to them.
Way to go, 2nd graders! Keep shining and making our world a better place, one good deed at a time! 🌍💖✨

🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔
Mary Lee Clark Elementary teacher, Mrs. Jackson, and her 4th graders are diving into the fascinating world of moon phases! 🌙✨ By using hands-on activities like flashlights and Styrofoam "moons," our young scientists are making big discoveries. In this engaging classroom activity, students use a flashlight to represent the Sun and a Styrofoam ball as the moon. By rotating the ball around their heads, they can see how the light changes on the ball's surface, mimicking the phases of the moon.
This interactive approach helps our students visualize and understand how the moon's position relative to Earth and the Sun creates the different phases we see from Earth. It's a fantastic way to make learning tangible and fun! 🚀🔦🌍

Set a Routine: Establish a consistent sleep schedule and morning routine.
Create a Positive Environment: Encourage a love for learning at home.
Communicate: Keep an open line of communication between parents and teachers.
Support: Offer help when students face challenges that may hinder attendance.
Together, we can make a difference! Let's celebrate #AttendanceAwarenessMonth by committing to being present and making every school day count. 🌟📖

🌟 Exciting News from Mamie Lou Gross Elementary School! 🌟
Students at Mamie Lou Gross have the opportunity to participate in STEM class as one of their specials this year! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In this class, students collaborate to solve problems, think critically to find solutions, and use their creativity to develop new items.
We are thrilled to announce that Mamie Lou Gross has partnered with DoD STEM FIRST to provide LEGO kits for our students to use in STEM class. These kits offer students the freedom to free build and also introduce them to coding and LEGO robotics.
Last week, MLG’s talented 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders created intricate LEGO mazes in STEM class, complete with challenging obstacles. Great work, students! 🚀🔧📚

🌟 Friday Fun in Mrs. Renshaw's Room at Sugarmill Elementary School! 🌟
Last week in the new HMH curriculum, first grade focused on friendship. The story, “A Kid’s Guide to Friends,” taught them all about how to make friends and be a good friend to others. To celebrate what they learned, they had a Fun Food Friday and made a special Friendship Fruit Salad! Each ingredient represented their wonderful classroom — kind friends, hardworking students, and kids who use kind words and hands. 🥳
They also talked about how they only want positive attitudes in their classroom. They had a juicy apple that looked good on the outside, but when they cut it open, it was rotten inside. The students decided they didn’t want to add a “bad apple” to their friendship salad. This sparked a great discussion about how they all want to be kind, positive, and supportive — just like their fruit salad! 🍎🍊🍇

🌧️🌎 Mary Lee Clark Elementary School teacher, Ms. Tillman, and her 5th graders are turning into young geologists! This week, they dove into the fascinating world of weathering, erosion, and deposition. They observed how water erosion affects sand, potting soil, and dirt mixed with grass and rocks.
The students made thoughtful predictions about which materials would experience the most or least erosion and weathering. Through lively discussions and hands-on experiments, they saw firsthand how each material eroded differently.
Experiencing these destructive processes up close helped them understand the impact of rainstorms on our Earth. Way to go, future scientists! 👩🔬👨🔬
