Third graders at Crooked River Elementary School are exploring rocks and minerals, learning about their unique physical properties. 🪨✨ In a recent lab, they conducted hands-on experiments to examine characteristics like texture, luster, color, and hardness, using tools to test rock toughness. 🔍🔨 They also engaged in a classification activity to further understand the differences among rocks, sparking discussions about their formation and everyday uses. 🌍💡 The students' enthusiasm for geology is commendable, and their journey of discovery continues! 🎒🔬 #BElieveinCAMDEN #WeAreCamden #CRESDolphins #Geology #LearningFun

Happy National Principals Month! 🎉 Dr. Lang, principal of Crooked River Elementary School, has taken a moment to share his favorite memory as a principal: "My favorite memory as a principal involves an unexpected adventure that had the whole school talking for weeks. One day, an alligator wandered onto our campus, sending students and staff into a frenzy. With quick thinking and a trusty dog leash, I managed to lasso the wayward reptile and guide it safely away from the school grounds. It was a wild, unforgettable day that showcased not only my love for the students' safety but also a bit of bravery and humor!" Join us in honoring Dr. Lang and all principals who make a difference in our schools! 💙🩵 #BElieveinCAMDEN #WeAreCamden #NationalPrincipalsMonth #ThankAPrincipal

Due to the potential for high winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding associated with Hurricane Milton and with the guidance of the National Weather Service (NWS) and Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Camden County Schools will switch from face-to-face instruction to distance learning for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, through Friday, October 11, 2024. School buildings will be closed. Distance learning will not include new learning for students nor require them to be online. Teachers will provide students with activities to complete while schools are closed that provide enrichment, recovery, and practice opportunities. This adjustment allows us to close out the end of the nine weeks with minimal disruption and avoid adding days to the school calendar for students. The safety of our students, staff, and their families remains the priority. Only essential staff will report to work on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. In any emergency, it is critical for families to rely on accurate, timely information directly from the school system or local and state officials. All official announcements will be made through the Camden County Schools website, app, social media pages, and automated messaging system. We encourage all families to review their emergency plans and stay tuned to local news outlets for the latest weather updates. We wish everyone the best as you prepare for the storm and make plans to ensure the safety of your families. Thank you for your patience during this time. 🔥 It's National Fire Prevention Week! 🚒 This week, let's focus on keeping our homes and communities safe from the threat of fire. Here are some important tips to help you prevent fires and protect your loved ones: Check Your Smoke Alarms: Ensure all smoke alarms are working properly. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year. Create an Escape Plan: Make sure everyone in your household knows at least two ways to exit every room in the event of a fire and practice your escape plan regularly. Be Careful with Cooking: Stay in the kitchen while cooking, especially when using high heat. Unattended cooking is a leading cause of home fires. Use Candles Safely: Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn and never leave them unattended. Inspect Heating Equipment: Have your heating system inspected every year by a professional to ensure it's functioning safely. Let's work together to reduce fire risks and increase safety in our communities. Share these tips with your friends and family to help spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference! 🙌 #BElieveinCAMDEN #WeAreCamden #FirePreventionWeek #SafetyFirst #CommunitySafety
