Due to the potential for high winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding associated with Hurricane Milton and with the guidance of the National Weather Service (NWS) and Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Camden County Schools will switch from face-to-face instruction to distance learning for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, through Friday, October 11, 2024. School buildings will be closed. Distance learning will not include new learning for students nor require them to be online. Teachers will provide students with activities to complete while schools are closed that provide enrichment, recovery, and practice opportunities. This adjustment allows us to close out the end of the nine weeks with minimal disruption and avoid adding days to the school calendar for students. The safety of our students, staff, and their families remains the priority. Only essential staff will report to work on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. In any emergency, it is critical for families to rely on accurate, timely information directly from the school system or local and state officials.
All official announcements will be made through the Camden County Schools website, app, social media pages, and automated messaging system. We encourage all families to review their emergency plans and stay tuned to local news outlets for the latest weather updates.
We wish everyone the best as you prepare for the storm and make plans to ensure the safety of your families. Thank you for your patience during this time. Follow us on social media: Facebook: @camdencountyschools X (Twitter): @camdenschoolsga Instagram: @camdencountyschoolsga

🔥 It's National Fire Prevention Week! 🚒
This week, let's focus on keeping our homes and communities safe from the threat of fire. Here are some important tips to help you prevent fires and protect your loved ones:
Check Your Smoke Alarms: Ensure all smoke alarms are working properly. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
Create an Escape Plan: Make sure everyone in your household knows at least two ways to exit every room in the event of a fire and practice your escape plan regularly.
Be Careful with Cooking: Stay in the kitchen while cooking, especially when using high heat. Unattended cooking is a leading cause of home fires.
Use Candles Safely: Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn and never leave them unattended.
Inspect Heating Equipment: Have your heating system inspected every year by a professional to ensure it's functioning safely.
Let's work together to reduce fire risks and increase safety in our communities. Share these tips with your friends and family to help spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference! 🙌

Last Friday, the Kindergarten students at Sugarmill Elementary had an incredible time participating in a Community Helper Day, marking the start of their new unit, My Community Heroes, in the HMH curriculum. 🎉📚 Our young learners dressed up as their future selves, showcasing their dreams and aspirations. 🦸♀️🦸♂️ We were fortunate to have four outstanding community helpers join us, demonstrating their equipment and vehicles 🚒🚓, while explaining how they contribute to our community's well-being. 🌟
A heartfelt thank you goes out to St. Marys Fire Department 🚒, St. Marys Police Department 🚓, Doc & Nene’s Shaved Ice 🍧, and St. Marys Public Safety 🚨 for dedicating their time and efforts to inspire our students. Your involvement not only brought joy to our Kindergarteners but also provided them with valuable insights into the vital roles each of you play in keeping our community safe and thriving. ❤️🏘️ We are truly grateful for your support and commitment to education and community spirit! 🌈👏

🍎🍏 Exciting news from Mrs. Kriner's PreK class at Mary Lee Clark Elementary! Our little scientists embarked on a hands-on adventure to uncover the mysteries of buoyancy and density. Armed with magnifying glasses, they examined apples and seeds up close, making predictions about which would sink or float. 💧🔍 The room buzzed with excitement as they tested their hypotheses, sparking lively discussions about the science behind floating and sinking. This fun-filled activity not only ignited their curiosity but also built a strong foundation for future scientific exploration. 🌟👏

To prepare for the Unit 1 math test, Ms. Hyten's third grade class at Crooked River Elementary School played "Capture the Flag." 🏴 Teams received task cards reviewing math content 📚 and took turns solving problems, with one student writing ✏️ and others assisting 🤝. After checking answers with the teacher 👩🏫, they earned flags of varying point values, known only to Ms. Hyten. The team with the highest total flag value won 🏆, making it a fun way to review math, encourage teamwork, and showcase skills. 🎉
